Opening of the World Scouting Museum
The World Scouting Museum will be opening prior to the BSA National Jamboree at Summit Bechtel Reserve on July 7, 2023. Charleston, WV, 7/7/2023 9:30 am-5:00 pm – Come see the history of Scouting and the largest collection of Scouting Memorabilia in the WORLD at the Opening of the World Scouting Museum!

Recently moved from Las Vegas, Nevada to Charleston, West Virginia the World Scouting Museum has items from the 172 Countries with Scouting including Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts USA. The Museum is also home to memorabilia of the World Scout Bureau dating back to 1923. Some of the exciting items in our collection are Swiss-made Automata, Patches, Stamps, and much more. The Museum also is home to one of the largest libraries of Scouting books and magazines in the world which can be accessed for research purposes. We have a large collection of Order of the Arrow memorabilia and patches and some unique stories to share along the way.

The World Scouting Museum will be working with Scouters in the area as a resource where service projects can be completed for Scouters working towards their Eagle Scout rank or Gold Award respectively.
If you are planning to attend the National Jamboree, we hope that you will stop by on the trip to the Summit and see all the amazing Scouting related history our walls contain! Be sure to stop by our gift shop to stock up on Patches to trade for any Scouters that are in need! We will be planning to hold a Grand Opening at a later date so stay tuned for that! About the World Scouting Museum
Museum Admission Charges are:

$15 for Adults 18+

$10 for Seniors 60+

$7 for Youth 6-17

$5 for Scouts and Scouters in Uniform visiting with their Scouting Unit

Museum Location:
Located at 1615 Washington Street East in Charleston, WV 25311. Take Exit 99 Off I64/I-77, and drive 0.1 miles south on Greenbrier St. Turn Right on Washington St E and drive 0.1 miles and Museum is on the left. Bus parking is also available, but please call us ahead to let us know that we need to park the bus.

Tours:
We welcome visitors but ask that you call or email for an appointment. To
Schedule a tour, call (681) 265-1382 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, or email the curator at WSMWVCurator@gmail.com. The final tour of the day will be at 4:00 p.m. Later tours can be arranged, please call us to arrange them at least 24 hours ahead of time. Tours can be scheduled for outside of normal business hours if prior notification and scheduling are followed. If you are bringing a group through the area and will not be in
town for a tour during normal operating hours, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Weekend Tours will be available but must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance of your visit to the Museum. We will be adding Saturday opening hours in the future. Please allow for a minimum time of 1 hour for a tour, they can go longer depending on your level of interest in Scouting. Tours are typically guided but we can be flexible if you prefer just notify your tour guide. We are happy to do our best to explain items in the
collection that you may have questions about.

Mission:
The World Scouting Museum is dedicated to:
(1) Show the magnitude of the influence Scouting has had on individuals, families, communities, countries, and the world.
(2) Communicate the continuing significance of Scouting’s historical values and principles to present and future generations.
(3) Promote World Peace by acknowledging and demonstrating the similarities of youth in every country and culture.

Vision:
(1) Disseminate the inspirational stories of individuals whose lives have been impacted and changed by the Scouting program and its timeless ideals and values.
(2) Be the foremost repository of International Scouting memorabilia.

History:
In 1996 the Robert Lynn Horne Foundation was created as a 501(C) 3 charitable organization with the goal of creating a world-class museum dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the Scouting Movement. Three major events occurred in 1997. The name was changed to the Las Vegas International Scouting Museum (LVISM). Claude Marchel’s Scouting Museum, the largest Scouting Museum in Europe was moved from Switzerland to Las Vegas to become part of LVISM.

The Las Vegas International Scouting Museum became the depository of the World Scout Bureau’s memorabilia collection which dates to 1929. The Museum officially opened on, June 25, 1998, and Solange Marchel was in attendance. The museum was originally in a suite next door to the medical office of R. Lynn Horne MD. Additional space was added as more suites became available. In November 2012, the museum moved to a new 13,000-square-foot building on West Sahara Ave in Las Vegas.
The museum’s collection moved from Nevada to West Virginia in December 2022 and the new museum will be open well in time for those going to the National Jamboree this July. The museum is believed to be the largest repository of Boy Scout, Girl Scout, and Girl Guiding items in the world.

Dr. Robert Lynn Horne has served as the Executive Director of the Las Vegas International Scouting Museum / World Scouting Museum since its founding.

Tax Status:
The Museum is an approved 501(c)(3) charitable organization, thereby allowing donors to deduct contributions to the Museum in accordance with the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
