Cambodian Scout Memorabilia Exchange
Recently Lynn Horne, WSM’s Executive Director, visited the National Association of Cambodian Scouts. He took to them a BSA uniform and a variety of BSA Handbooks and patches. He met with LAK Sam Ath, Secretary General, TUON Siphann, Vice-President and International Commissioner, KONG Uok, Vice President and Director of Cabinet of Cambodian Scouts, and other Scouts and Scout Leaders. The National Office of the Cambodian Scouts is in the Council of Ministers Office in Phnom Penh, the nation’s capital Dr. Horne also visited the National Training Center in Siem Reap.
The Cambodian Scouts donated to the Museum one of their Uniforms, their insignia, their Flag, and many of their Scouting Books for the Museum’s Library. All of these are already on display in the Museum.
Scouting was originally founded in 1934 as the Khmer Scout Association and quickly grew to 1000 members throughout the country. In 1955 there were 2000 Scouts, and Scouts and Scout leaders attended the 8th World Scout Jamboree in 1955 in Canada and the 10th World Scout Jamboree in 1959 in the Philippines.
The National Association of Cambodian Scouts is the current national Scouting organization in Cambodia. It was founded in September 2005 through the merger of the Scout Organization of Cambodia and the Cambodian Scouts and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement on July 1, 2008. The coeducational association currently serves over 6000 members.
